Governor Cox to host final Energy Superabundance workshop on May 20 & 21

The fourth and final workshop of Utah Governor Spencer Cox’s WGA Chair initiative, Energy Superabundance: Unlocking Prosperity in the West, will be held in Salt Lake City on May 20 and 21

In addition to remarks from Governor Cox, the two-day event will convene regional energy experts and policymakers for panel discussions on some of the West’s most pressing energy issues, including energy affordability, long and short-duration energy storage, comprehensive permitting reform, critical mineral supply chains, and much more.

Each year, the Chair of the Western Governors’ Association (WGA) chooses an initiative on which to focus the Association’s convening power and policy prowess. The findings of the WGA Chair initiative are memorialized in an initiative report that is released at WGA’s Annual Meeting.

2026 Policy Forum

The 2023 Lahaina wildfire desastated one of Hawaiʻi’s most historic communities. The island's remote location and rugged geography only intesnsifiedthe immense challenges that arise during any rebuilding process. To examine the hard-won lessons of the ongoing restoration, Hawai‘i Governor Josh Green hosted WGA's 2026 Policy Forum in Maui on April 20 and 21.   

The two-day forum featured a conversation between Governor Green and New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. Regional experts and policymakers also participated in panel discussions about trauma-informed approaches to disaster recovery, the future of disaster management and recovery, disaster recovery in rural communities, and much more.

Annual Policy Forum

The Annual Policy Forum is focused on addressing capacity challenges to equip western communities to undertake locally led community and economic development efforts.
